Social Services Minister June Draude has grave concerns regarding Saskatchewan General and Government Employees Union (SGEU) television commercial that alleges social services in Saskatchewan are being underfunded, putting families at risk. "The SGEU ads are dishonest and misleading — their only purpose is to scare people and score political points," said Draude. "Under the Saskatchewan Party, funding for Social Services has increased by over $223 million, which represents a 37 per cent increase. From 2008-09 to 2011-12, our Government has invested $84 million in new funding for our child welfare system alone." In March of this year, the Saskatchewan Party Government launched the province's first ever Saskatchewan Children and Youth Agenda budget, a new comprehensive, cross-government approach to the issues facing vulnerable children and their families. This initiative committed $34 million this year. In addition, the Government has increased the number of staff dedicated to working with Saskatchewan children and families. "It is unfortunate that SGEU has chosen to play politics over helping Saskatchewan children and families," Draude said. "The Saskatchewan Party government has taken action to transform the child welfare system so that every child and family in our province can achieve the best possible outcomes."
